Newly appointed Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Mohammad Shaheen Iqbal took over the command of Bangladesh Navy on Saturday.
He succeeded outgoing Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Abu Mozaffar Mohiuddin Mohammad Aurangzeb Chowdhury after his promotion to the rank of Vice Admiral from Rear Admiral.
The command handing/taking over ceremony was held at Naval Headquarters in the capital. Vice Admiral Mohammad Shaheen Iqbal signed the command taking over book at the office of the Chief of Naval Staff.
The event was attended by the Principal Staff Officers of the Naval Headquarters, all the Regional Commanders, the Managing Directors of the Dockyard/Shipyard and senior naval officers.
Vice Admiral Mohammad Shaheen Iqbal joined Bangladesh Navy as an officer cadet on June 1 in 1980. He worked his way through Bangladesh Naval Academy and was commissioned in Executive Branch on December 1 in 1982.
In his long 40-year career, he has demonstrated exemplary military expertise. He is well known to naval officers and sailors for his professionalism, honesty and dedication. He has commanded all classes of ships and important bases, including naval frigates.
He performed various important duties, including Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations), Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Personnel), Director of Naval Operations, Director of Naval Intelligence, Regional Commander of Chittagong Naval Area, Regional Commander of Khulna Naval Area and Director of National Security Intelligence with utmost efficiency and success.
In every field of his working life, he has left the mark of supreme leadership qualities, far-reaching thinking, sincerity and honesty.
During his service career, Vice Admiral Shaheen Iqbal has undergone various important trainings and military strategic education at home and abroad. He was awarded various honors, including receiving the highest praise from the Chief of Naval Staff for achieving higher grading and signature of achievement in each training.
