Cold wave likely to continue in the beginning of 2026

The temperature of Srimangal in Moulvibazar and Tetulia in Panchagarh has dropped below 10 degrees Celsius. This means that a cold wave has begun in these two districts. However, the rest of the country is experiencing mild winter.

Cold wave conditions are expected to continue for most parts of Bangladesh at the beginning of 2026.


Bangladesh Meteorological Department (IMD) has said, there is little chance of cold wave temperatures in some parts of the country except for a few places during the rest of this month. Most parts of the country, including the capital, may experience mild winters. The beginning of the next month may begin with a cold wave across the country. There may be a cold wave somewhere in the country for most of January.


The Meteorological Department has said that the temperature in the southern parts of the country may increase by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius today, Wednesday. However, the temperature in Barishal, Khulna, and Chattogram may decrease slightly and the cold may increase. The temperature in the rest of the country is likely to remain unchanged. 


There is no forecast of a cold wave across the country for the rest of this month. However, there may be cold waves in one or two isolated places.


According to the observations of the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in most areas of the country increased by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius yesterday. However, the temperature in Srimangal decreased slightly to 8.9 degrees Celsius. And the temperature in Tetulia was 9.4 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in the capital was 15.1 degrees Celsius.


The Meteorological Department has forecast that fog may fall in different parts of the country from today. Light to moderate fog may fall especially in riverside areas from evening to early morning.
