Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said that the Chhatra League had created an unsafe environment through terrorist activities across the country including educational institutions. This is why the Chhatra League has been banned.
He stated this at a seminar titled 'Nirapad Bangladesh Chai' at the National Press Club on Saturday (November 9).
Shafiqul Alam said, if the educational institutions are not safe, the whole country will become unsafe. Chhatra League was banned because of its terrorist activities.
He also said that an environment should be created so that the Chhatra League cannot be formed anywhere else. Students, teachers, and heads of educational institutions should play a role in this. Everyone should come forward to build a fair country.
Press secretary Shafiqul Alam also said that if the state is to be repaired anew, terrorism must be eliminated in the educational institutions.
Earlier, in a notification published by the Home Ministry on October 23, the Interim Government banned the Chhatra League under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
It is stated in the published notification that since the Bangladesh Awami League's fraternal organization Bangladesh Chhatra League has been involved in various public security disturbing activities including murder, torture, common room-based oppression, seat trading in dormitories, tender bidding, rape and sexual harassment during various periods after the independence of Bangladesh, especially during the last 15 years of authoritarian rule and related to this. There has been documentary information published in all major media of the country including some terrorist incidents of them. The guilt of the organization's leaders and activists has also been proved in court.
During the anti-discrimination student movement since 15th July, Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders and activists attacked the protesting students and general public with frenzied and reckless armed attacks, killing hundreds of innocent students and persons and endangering the lives of many more people. As the government has enough evidence, even after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, Bangladesh Chhatra League has been involved in conspiratorial, destructive, and provocative activities against the state and various terrorist activities.
Therefore, the government, under the powers given in sub-section (1) of Section 18 of the 'Anti-Terrorism Act, 2009', banned Bangladesh Awami League's fraternal organization 'Bangladesh Chhatra League'.
