A Dhaka Court has exempted seven top BNP lawyers of the Supreme Court in the contempt of court case for holding a press conference and rally against two judges of the Appellate Division.
A four-judge appellate bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed passed the order on Sunday rejecting the contempt of court order.
At the same time, the petitioner against the lawyer of BNP was asked to pay a fine of one lakh taka as he was not present in the court. The fine should be paid to the July Memorial Foundation.
The seven lawyers are Barrister Kaiser Kamal, Secretary General of Nationalist Lawyers Forum and Legal Secretary of BNP, Former Attorney General AJ Mohammad Ali, President of Nationalist Lawyers Forum, Advocate Fahima Nasrin Munni, Member of Executive Committee of BNP, Nationalist Lawyers Forum Supreme Court. Branch President Advocate Abdul Jabbar Bhuiyan, former Supreme Court Bar Editor Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal, Supreme Court Bar Former Co-Editor Advocate Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Khan and Nationalist Lawyers Forum Supreme Court Branch General Secretary Advocate Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal. However, lawyer AJ Mohammad Ali died in the meantime.
