We are not a permanent government. The term of this government must be less than 4 years. It is likely to be lower depending on the will of the people and political parties, said Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of the Interim Government.
He said this in an interview given to Qatar-based media Al Jazeera during the COP-29 climate conference held recently in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. Al Jazeera broadcasted the interview on Sunday (November 17)
“The term of a regular government is five years. But in the new constitution, the term of the government can be four years. Because people want shorter terms of government. Therefore, the term of the Interim Government will be less than four years. It may even be less,” Dr. Muhammad Yunus told Al Jazeera.
He also said that we aim to finish the work of the Interim Government quickly. We are not here for four years. If the political parties want, we are ready to hold early elections without a reform process. However, the reform work is underway. The entire system of government is being reformed, even the Constitution is in the process of being reformed.
“The people of Bangladesh want something new. Due to this, reforms are being brought in the entire government system. Various reform commissions are being formed for this purpose,” the Chief Adviser mentioned.
In the interview, Dr. Muhammad Yunus discussed in detail the ongoing reform process in Bangladesh, election preparations, and the direction of future diplomatic relations.
