One of the most powerful hurricanes in U.S. history, 'Helene,' has struck. The southwestern coastal states of Florida and Georgia have been severely impacted. At least 46 people have lost their lives, and over 4 million homes and businesses are without power, according to Reuters.

The hurricane made landfall at 11:10 PM local time on Thursday, September 26, in Florida's Big Bend region.

According to the Reuters report, this Category 4 hurricane has caused widespread chaos across coastal areas. Numerous boats have overturned in the Tampa, Naples, and St. Petersburg areas along Florida's coast. Many trees have fallen onto roads, vehicles are stranded in water, and some roads are completely submerged.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center reported that Hurricane Helene slammed into Florida’s coast with wind speeds of 225 km/h. It weakened into a tropical storm as it moved toward neighboring Georgia early Friday. By the afternoon, it had further weakened into a tropical depression, with wind speeds dropping to 55 kilometers per hour. It slowly moved over Tennessee and Kentucky.

The center also mentioned that Hurricane Helene caused catastrophic flooding in the southern Appalachian region due to heavy rainfall.

Earlier, the U.S. National Hurricane Center had warned that the storm might make landfall in Florida around 11 PM on Friday. As of Friday, over 2 million homes and businesses were without power.
