Seven accused of retired major Sinha Mohammad Rashed killing have been put on a fresh remand for four days.

The court of Cox’s Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah gave the order accepting a remand prayer of Rapid Action Battalion-15 senior superintendent of police Mohammad Khayrul Islam, also the investigating officer of the case, on Monday.

A court earlier on August 6 had granted seven-day remand for the accused.

Of the accused, RAB took three key suspects, suspended Teknaf police station officer-in-charge Pradeep Kumar Das, Baharchhara investigation centre inspector Liakat Ali and the centre’s sub-inspector Nanda Dulal Rakkhit to its custody on August 18.

The IO produced the trio before the court after their remand ended on Monday and sought fresh remand for 10 days. But the magistrate granted four-day remand.

The IO also sought 10-day remand for each of the four other accused who were in jail on completion of their seven-day remand period earlier this month.

Sinha, 36, who took early retirement from the Bangladesh Army in 2018, was shot dead at a police checkpoint on Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive at Shamlapur under Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar on July 31.
