The government is likely to cancel this year's Primary Education Completion (PEC) and Junior School Certificate (JSC) examinations to due to coronavirus pandemic.
Primary and Mass Education Ministry's Senior Secretary M Akram- Al-Hossain informed media that a summary over the cancellation of this year's PEC, Ebtedayee and JSC is being sent to the Prime Minister for her approval.
"We're sending a summary to the PM for her approval on cancallation of the two exams only for this year due to coronavirus pandemic. But the decision in this regard has not been finalised yet," he said.
According to the ministry concerned, the matter relating to exams cancellation was discussed in a meeting between the PM's Principal Secretary and the Mass Education Ministry's Senior Secretary last week.
Every year, nearly 30 students participate in the PEC and Ebtedayee examinations while 20 lakh in the JSC and JDC examinations.
If the exams will be cancelled, students' merit will be evaluated through final exams this year after reopening of schools, sources said.
All educational institutions have remained closed since March 17 to contain the spread of Covid-19.
The government has extended general closure of educational institutions till August 31.
