15 killed in road accidents in different parts

At least 15 people were killed in separate road accidents in different parts of the country on Saturday.

In Chuadanga, six people were killed and four others injured as a night coach rammed into a passenger van in Sadar upazila in the morning.
The deceased were identified as Sohag Ali, 25, Sharifuddin, 30, Raju Ahmed, 45, Kalu, 40, Milon Hossain, 40 and Sree Shashthi Haldar, 42.

The accident took place as the Chuadanga-bound night coach of Royal Express transport service dashed against a battery-run three-wheeler ‘nosimon‘, killing three out of its eight passengers.

Later, the bus rammed into a number of three-wheelers, motorcycles and pedestrians, claiming three more lives.

The crash occurred at Sarojganj point of Jhenaidah-Chuadanga route, said Abdul Salam, deputy director of Chuadanga Fire Service and Civil Defence.

He said reckless bus driving might have caused the accident.

Locals blocked Chuadanga-Jhenaidah highway protesting the accident and halting vehicular movement for hours.
Kanak Kumar Kanti, additional superintendent of police in Chuadanga, said law enforcers could not arrest the driver and helper who fled the spot.

Of the injured, Bablur Rahman, 35, Akash Hossain, 28, and Jummon Ali, 30, could be identified. The wounded are undergoing treatment at Sadar Hospital.

Deputy Commissioner of the district Nazrul Islam Sarker provided Tk 20,000 to each of the deceased families for burial costs.

Meanwhile, at least seven people were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Muktagacha upazila of Mymensingh.

The accident took place when a Jamalpur-bound bus of Rajib Paribahan reached Muktagacha’s Mankun area and collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw around 4:00pm.

Four people died on the spot while three others succumbed to injuries on the way to Muktagacha Upazila Health Complex.

Muktagacha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Biplob Kumar confirmed the matter.

Police seized the bus but its driver and his assistant fled the scene.

Besides, two people were killed and another person was injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka and Dhamrai on Saturday.     

In Dhaka, a young motorcyclist was killed losing control at Shanir Akhra of Jatrabari.

The deceased was identified as Parvez, 28, son of Hasan.

Confirming the news, KM Azizul Haque, sub-inspector of Jatrabari Police Station, said Parvez lost control of his motorcycle while returning home from Narayanganj at 3:00am.

Locals took the injured to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctor declared him dead.

In Dhamrai, another motorcyclist was killed being rammed by a passenger bus in Kachmoch area.

He was identified as Alauddin Sheikh, 28, son of Amin Sheikh, hailing from Rajbari.

According to locals, the passenger bus hit the motorcycle on Dhaka-Aricha highway at 11:00am, leaving him dead on the spot.

Dipak Chandra Saha, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dhamrai Police Station, confirmed the matter.
