The waters at 28 points of 17 major rivers of the country are flowing above the danger levels, according to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) under the  Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) on Tuesday evening.

Some 6.15 lakh people in 20 worst affected districts of the country have become marooned due to the floods caused by onrush of water from the upstream Indian states of Assam and Meghalaya, and torrential rains over the last several days.

So far, 22 people have died due to drowning in these districts.
According to the estimate by the Ministry of Agriculture, crops worth Tk 349 crore have been damaged by the flood.

The Met office forecasts that heavy rain may fall in the country's northern and north-eastern regions between the next 24 and 72 hours like the last several days. Due to the rains, the water levels in the rivers Brahmaputra, Jamuna, Dharla and Teesta of the northern region, and upper Meghna  of the northeatern region, and major rivers in the hilly areas may rise very quickly. It may deteriorates the prevailing flood situation and causing flash flood in fresh areas.
During the next 24 hours, the flood situation may remain stable in Kurigram, Gaibandha, Bogura, Jamalpur, Sirajganj, Tangail, Manikganj, Natore, Munshiganj, Faridpur, Madaripur, Rajbari, Shariatpur and the low-lying areas in Dhaka district, said the FFWC.
On the other hand, the flood situation in Sunamganj and Syhet districts may deteriorate further.
