BD reports 41 more deaths from coronavirus

Bangladesh today confirmed 41 more deaths from the novel coronavirus and 3,057 new cases of infection testing 12,898 samples in the last 24 hours.

With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 2,709 and the number of total infections stood at 210,510.

"Of the dead patients, 34 are men and seven women. Moreover, 15 each are hailed from Dhaka and Chattogram, five each from Khulna and Rajshahi, and one from Rangpur division," Additional Director General (administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Professor Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the latest figures during the daily virtual health bulletin today.

"Thirty-one of them have died in different hospitals and 10 at their respective homes," she added.

According to the analysis of Covid-19 victims' age groups as of today, the highest number of patients - 44.70 percent or 1,211 - died till date are aged sixty and above. The age groups of 51-60 and 41-50 come next with respectively 29.49 percent (799) and 14.29 percent (387). Rest of the age groups stand under seven percent, such as- 31-40 with 6.79 percent (184), 21-30 with 2.99 percent (81), 11-20 with 1.07 percent (29) and under ten with 0.66 percent (18).

The gender-wise analysis of the victims disclosed that some 2,138 people who have died from Covid-19 are males and 571 are females, which are 78.92% and 21.08% respectively.

District-wise, out of 2,709 fatalities till date, 48.73 percent or 1,320 are hailed from Dhaka division, 25.40 or 688 percent from Chattogram, 6.57 percent or 178 from Khulna, 5.50 percent or 149 from Rajshahi, 4.61 percent or 125 from Sylhet, 3.69 percent or 100 from Barishal, 3.36 percent or 91 from Rangpur and 2.14 percent or 58 from Mymensingh.

Dr Nasima Said, "Some 12,149 samples were collected in the last 24 hours and 12,898 were tested in 80 labs across the country. So far 1,054,559 samples have been tested."

Besides, some 1,841 patients have recovered during the time, increasing the tally to 115,397.

Around 54.82 percent of novel coronavirus patients – both symptomatic and asymptomatic – have recovered in Bangladesh so far, while 1.29 percent have died.

The latest day's infection rate was 23.70 percent of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 19.96 percent.

Currently, 59,079 people are quarantined across the country – including 2,022 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 355,424 people have completed their quarantine course.

The country is capable of accommodating 31,991 people at 629 institutional quarantine facilities across the country.

Nasima Sultana said, "The authorities placed 710 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 18,671 after 25,909 left."

As many as 17,124,870 hotline health services were given by 16,498 trained and 4,217 volunteer doctors via three designated numbers, including 100,491 in the last 24-hour till 8am today.

Via the telemedicine service, everyday a total of 90 doctors and health officils in two shifts are providing Covid-19 advices, that has been availed by 106,898 people till date including 4,765 in last 24 hours.

The virus has killed 613,550 people globally and infected 14,867,503 so far.
