The interim government has extended the executive magistracy powers of all commissioned officers of the armed forces (Army, Navy, and Air Force) by an additional 60 days.
This information was revealed in a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Friday, November 15.
According to the notification, all commissioned officers of the Bangladesh Armed Forces with ranks equivalent to or higher than Army Captain are granted special executive magistracy powers across the country. These powers will remain effective for 60 days from the date of the notification.
The notification specifies that these powers are granted under sections 64, 65, 83, 84, 86, 95(2), 100, 105, 107, 109, 110, 126, 127, 128, 130, 133, and 142 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.
Previously, on September 17, Army officers were first granted magistracy powers to manage law and order. This authority was later extended to Navy and Air Force officers starting September 30.
