The cabinet division has issued a gazette notification announcing the formation of a search committee for the appointment of the Election Commission on Thursday.
According to the notice, the six members committee will be headed by Justice Zubair Rahman Chowdhury, judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.
The other members of the search committee are High Court Justice AKM Asaduzzaman, Auditor General and Comptroller Md Nurul Islam, Bangladesh Public Service Commission Chairman Prof Mobasser Monem, former Dhaka University Department of International Relations professor Dr Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, and former Bangladesh Public Service Commission chairman Dr Zinnatun Nessa Tahmida Begum.
The committee was formed under the Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners Appointment Act, 2022 and will perform its duties and functions accordingly, the Cabinet Division said.
Apart from this, following the law, the committee also includes Controller General of Accounts for the post of Comptroller and Auditor General Md Nurul Islam and the chairman of Bangladesh Public Works Commission Prof Mobasser Monem as members.
On 29 October, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul told reporters that the journey to the upcoming 13th national parliament election has begun. A search committee has been formed to form the Election Commission.
