BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Sunday that a constitutional process must be followed on the issue of President Mohammed Shahabuddin's removal.
"Any decision on the issue cannot be taken without careful consideration of the possible consequences."
The BNP leader stated this while paying tribute to former president Ziaur Rahman by placing a wreath at the BNP founder's grave at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Sunday (27 October) marking the 46th founding anniversary of BNP's youth wing, Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal.
Regarding the meeting with the anti-discrimination student movement on the removal of the President, Mirza Fakhrul said that national unity and any rash decision cannot be taken to coordinate the revolution of Bangladesh to bring home the fruits of mass uprising. Everything must be done according to the constitutional rules.
Fakhrul said that the country became independent for the second time on August 5 after a long struggle against the fascist Awami League. The role of Jubo Dal in this struggle is undoubtedly significant.
When asked if the BNP secretary general fears any conspiracies if the elections are delayed, he said, "We have repeatedly stated that elections need to be held as soon as possible. Power must be transferred to a constitutional political force."
Meanwhile, on the occasion of the founding anniversary, Jubo Dal will hold a free medical camp and voluntary blood donation program on the ground floor of BNP's central office in Nayapaltan on Sunday afternoon.
The program will be inaugurated by BNP Standing Committee member Professor Dr. A Z M Zahid Hossain. Mirza Abbas, another member of the party's standing committee, will be the chief guest on the occasion.
On this day (October 27) in 1978, the then President Ziaur Rahman, the founder of BNP, established the organization. Jubo Dal was established to transform the youth into working power through production-oriented politics with the aim of Bangladeshi nationalism, people's democracy, social justice, and economic emancipation.
Abul Kashem was the founding convenor of the Jubo Dal. Who was later elected as the president of the organization? Saifur Rahman was the first general secretary.
At present, Abdul Monayem Munna is serving as the president of Jubo Dal, and Nurul Islam Nayan is the general secretary. On the occasion of the establishment anniversary, they congratulated the leaders and workers of the organization from all over the country.
