Construction work of a flyover for the first time in Rajshahi city is progressing fast despite the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, reports BSS.
The 202.5-meter flyover along with a 120-meter ramp is being constructed at Budhpara Railway crossing with an estimated cost of Taka 29.28 crore.
The project is being implemented under the Taka 189.34 crore Rajshahi-Naogaon-Natore four-lane road construction scheme which will establish a direct link between the people of East and West sides of the city.
Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) AHM Khairuzzaman Liton visited the pitch carpeting works of road on the flyover on Thursday afternoon asking the engineers of the country to find ways to construct flyovers in an alternative process so that the country’s limited and valuable land assets could be saved.
Under the project, a 6.793-kilometer east-west four-lane connecting road has been constructed. Besides, construction works of footpaths on both sides of the road, a bridge, eight culverts, median and traffic infrastructures were completed.
Upon successful completion of the ongoing pitch carpeting and some other necessary works, the road is expected to be opened for traffic movement formally within a shortest possible time, Mayor Liton said while speaking on the occasion.
He said six major projects on infrastructure developments are being implemented at a total cost of around Taka 796.12 crore in the city at present.
Besides, the present government has approved a mega project involving around Taka 2,931.62 crore early this year for infrastructural development in the city.
“We have also planned five other need-based projects of around Taka 4,191.21 crore for development of the city,” he added.
Mayor Liton said the city corporation has been implementing various programmes to bring a qualitative change particularly in the field of infrastructural and environmental elevation in the metropolitan city.
“We are planning to establish Bangabandhu Eco Park on 100 acres of land and Sheikh Russell Science City and Safari Park in the city on another 100 acres of land within a shortest possible time,” Liton added.
Ward councilors, engineers and officials accompanied the mayor on the occasio
