A one-day state mourning is being observed in the country in memory of those killed in the quota reform movement. The color of mourning is black, but the social media covered in red.

On the day of state mourning on Tuesday (July 30), many people put their profile photos, cover photos in red only on their social handles. Many have also been seen posting pictures with red cloths over their eyes. There are various hashtags of protest.

Earlier, in a Cabinet meeting on Monday (July 29) there decided to observe state mourning, but a section of agitators and ordinary students dismissed it as farce and chose red as their profile picture on facebook.

From Monday night, people from various classes and professions joined this new trend along with students on Facebook.

Meanwhile, although Facebook has been closed by the government, on Tuesday (June 30), State Minister for Telecommunication and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak gave a black profile picture on his verified profile.

Abdul Hannan Masoud, Coordinator of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said that the government made a mockery of the martyrs by declaring a day of mourning in memory of the victims by carrying out mass killings across the country and then referring to the students' movement as 'violence'. In protest we boycotted their black badge programme. They still have blood on their hands. So our program is online campaign with face and eyes tied in red cloth.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal informed the cabinet that 150 people have been killed till Monday in the violence centered on the students' quota reform movement.
