A Rohingya man has been stabbed to death by unidentified miscreants at a camp in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya upazila. The incident took place at Balukhali camp number 8 around 11pm Thursday night.

Ukhiya police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Shamim Hossain confirmed the matter. The deceased was identified as Md Salek, 35, a resident of the D-76 block of the camp.

Quoting other residents of the camp, the OC said Md Salek was attacked by some three to four people wearing burqas. He sustained multiple injuries from sharp weapons on his head and body.

He died while being transported to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, the OC added.

It could not be ascertained who carried out the murder, but police suspect that the incident may have occurred due to establishing dominance among the armed groups active in the Rohingya camp, the OC said.
