Dhaka is in the grip of a severe cold spell, with Tuesday's lowest temperature plummeting to 11°C, marking this winter's coldest day in the capital.

The previous lowest was 12.3°C, registered just the day before.

Following a brief increase, temperatures are dropping again across Bangladesh.

The met office reported a mild to moderate cold wave affecting Dhaka, Rangpur, Rajshahi and Khulna divisions as well as districts like Moulvibazar, Barisal, Bhola and Comilla.

Night and day temperatures could rise slightly in places across the country, it added.

There may be moderate to thick fog from midnight to morning, and it may persist in some areas till noon.

The dense fog may disrupt air navigation, inland river transport and road communication.

Dhaka often experiences a lesser impact of winter due to its urbanization and large population density. To experience misty winter mornings, one usually has to venture into villages. This year, however, marks a significant departure from the norm, as Dhaka grapples with an intense winter.

The impact of this harsh winter is notably severe among low-income and marginalized communities in the capital.
