Defence secy dies from Covid-19

Abdullah Al Mohsin Chowdhury, senior secretary at the defence ministry, died from Covid-19 at the Combined Military Hospital in the capital yesterday.

He was 57. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Mohsin breathed his last at 9:35am, Bhasani Mirza, administrative officer at the ministry, told The Daily Star.

He was admitted to the CMH on May 29 after testing positive for coronavirus. As his condition deteriorated, he was moved to the intensive care unit on June 6. Later, he was put on a ventilator, mentioned the official.

Mohsin, who joined Bangladesh Civil Service in 1988, was made secretary at the defence ministry on January 12 and recently promoted to senior secretary.

Earlier, he had served as the secretary at the environment, forest and climate change ministry.

President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain and cabinet members expressed deep shock at his death and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members.
