The Natore Palli Bidyut Samity-1 authorities disconnected the electricity connection due to non-payment of bills for the past three years.

A total of Tk7.5 lakh electricity bill was outstanding for three important road lights including Rajshahi's Puthia municipal building.

According to sources, Puthia municipality has three power connections under Natore Palli Bidyut Samity-1 (Puthia Zone).

Of these, separate connections are taken for municipal offices and three road lights. One road lamp has a bill of Tk4 lakh, another Tk3 lakh, and another Tk50,000. The present mayor admitted that he was unable to pay the bill.

Around 9am on Tuesday, all the connections except the Puthia municipal building were disconnected. This has increased the suffering on the municipal roads at night.

Deputy General Manager of Natore Palli Bidyut Samity-1 Yakub Ali Sheikh said: “Even after 24 hours, the municipal authorities did not say anything about reconnection or payment of outstanding bills.”
