Sitrang: Khulna records 215mm rainfall in 15hrs

Khulna on Monday recorded 215mm rainfall in 15 hours due to Cyclone Sitrang. The rainfall was recorded from 6am to 9pm, according to the local weather office.

“Cyclone Sitrang turned towards Bhola with some momentum. As a result rainfall and wind velocity decreased in Khulna. Khulna recorded 12mm of rain in the previous 24 hours,” said Md Amirul Azad, assistant meteorologist of Khulna Meteorological Office.

Meanwhile, several roads of Khulna metropolitan have been inundated in this rain. Various areas including Shantidham intersection, Royal intersection, Baitipara, Saltachara, Harintana, Tutpara, East and West Bania Farms, Chanmari, Mollapara, Bastuhara Colony, Gobarchaka main road have been submerged.


Abdul Aziz, chief waste management officer of Khulna City Corporation, said that it takes time for the water in the city to go down due to the rise in the tidal water in the Rupsha River. “The drainage system of the city is much better than before. Therefore, the flooding of the city will soon improve,” he said.
