Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday directed not to repair those roads which were broken or cut in deluge hit Sylhet division.

The PM wants authorities to construct bridges or culverts on those damaged portions for smooth flow of flood water, said planning minister MA Mannan at a briefing at planning commission

The planning minister said the PM gave the directive while presiding over a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council from Ganabhaban virtually.

Sylhet and Sunamganj have been facing the deadly deluge for many decades following flash flood triggered by record rain fall across the border in the Indian state of Maghalaya.

Besides, the torrential rain, man-made infrastructures in the haors dominating Sylhet region have been blamed for the flood causing death of over 80 people.

The PM also directed to construct overpasses in the city for smooth movement of traffic now being hampered by the rail gates.

The PM was greeted during the meeting for commissioning of the Padma Bridge on June 25.
