Man killed, 10 injured as two ferries collide on Padma

A man was killed and at least 10 others were injured as two ferries on Shimulia-Majhirkandi ferry route on the Padma collide at a turning point near Zarira in Shariatpur district on early Sunday.

The deceased is Khokon Shikdar, 40, of Chingrakhali under Kathalia in Jhalokathi. He was adriver of a pick-up van.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation officials said that Ferry Sufia Kamal that left Majhirkandi end and Ferry Rokeya from Shimulia collided at the Padma turning point near Zazira with a big bang at about 3:30am.

Khokon shikder died on the spot as he was hit by a vehicle and at least 10 others were injured as they were hit by the vehicles on the ferries, they said.

BIWTC manager (business) Jamal Hossain said that the law and order situation were now under control and both the ferries were brought to the jetty.
