For the first time at Tangail, Sheikh Russell Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm following the slogan 'Sheikh Russell Dipta Joyollas, Adommyo Attabishash. On this occasion, a wreath was laid at the portrait of Sheikh Russell at Shaheed Smriti Municipal Park on Monday morning. Wreaths were laid on the portrait of Sheikh Russell by various segments including district administration, district police, district council, district Awami League and Tangail municipality.
Later, cake cutting and cultural program was organized at Shaheed Smriti Municipal Park. Zoaherul Islam Zoaher (General Secretary, District Awami League and Member of Parliament) was the chief guest on the occasion. SM Sirajul Haque Alamgir (Mayor, Tangail Municipality) presided over the function while special guests included Tanvir Hasan Chhota Monir (MP), Ataul Gani (Deputy Commissioner), Sanjit Kumar Roy (Superintendent of Police), Dr. Abul Fazl Md. Sahabuddin Khan (Civil Surgeon), Alamgir Khan Menu(Vice-President, District Awami League), Shahjahan Anshari (Chairman, Sadar Upazila Parishad) and others.
Later, a seminar and prize distribution titled 'Sheikh Russell Dipta Joyolllas, Adommoyo Attabishsh' was organized in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner at around 10 am. With the chair of Ataul Gani (Deputy Commissioner). Fazlur Rahman Khan Farooq (President, District Awami League) was the chief guest on the occassion. Government officials of various departments were also present at that time.
