Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said the government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, will resist strongly the communal forces involved in vandalism of temples and houses of Hindu community.
"Ahead of elections, evil forces and extreme communal groups attacked temples and Hindu's homes in 10 to 12 places, including Cumilla. The Sheikh Hasina's government will resist these evil forces in an iron hand," he said.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, made the remarks after visiting the Ramakrishna Mission Puja Mandap in the capital.
Calling upon the country's people not to pay heed to rumours, he said propaganda is being spread in social media by creating rumours but all should remain alert against those.
The AL general secretary said those who are getting inflamed over the country's development and those who are angry over the peaceful celebration of worship in every puja mandapa across the country want to push the country back with various tactics.
Creating enmity between the Hindus and Muslims is one of their ill-tactics, he said, urging all to maintain religious harmony and unity in the country.
Quader said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already instructed the local administrations to take action against the provocative efforts and conspiratorial mischief of the communal forces. "All must remain alert against them (the evil forces)," he added.
"The communal forces are trying to destroy the peace of the country. Even after immersion (of idols), there would be the marks of these incidents. We will remain alert," the road transport and bridges minister said.
