Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) drives to recover sections of Shyampur and Manda canals are set to continue for a few more days, DSCC Public Relations Officer Abu Naser said on Tuesday.

The drives began on Sunday and cover a total of about 20km. They are being conducted at the Kutubkhali and Jatrabari areas of Shyampur canal, and the Matuail area of Manda Canal.

“People are throwing waste, which results in waterlogging in nearby areas. There will be no negotiation with those who have illegal structures in those areas. We are recovering the canals for the sake of the people, not for any other reason,” he said.

“We are conducting the drive and the ongoing eviction process is a small part of it,” Naser told this newspaper.

On December 31, the DSCC took charge of Shyampur, Jirani, Manda, Kalu Nagar canals from the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority.
