Health secretary Abdul Mannan’s house came under an attack and an assistant commissioner (land) was thrown into a pond during the incident allegedly by some people close to the Awami League member of parliament Nur Mohammad at Katiadi in Kishoreganj on Saturday.

The incidents are linked to the establishment of a community clinic by Abdul Mannan and his family in the area.

The secretary was at his village home during the incident.

Mannan told New Age that Nur Mohammad had instructed his associates to attack the house.

The attackers also assaulted assistant commissioner Ashraful Alam, he added.

The secretary also complained that police took no measures against the attackers during the attack.

Kishorganj deputy commissioner Mohammad Shamim Alam said that some people assaulted Ashraful and threw him into a pond.

He said that they would investigate the incident.

Mannan said that he went to his village as part of a scheduled mass vaccination programme today.

The secretary sets up the community clinic at Chanpur village and named it after his wife, who died of COVID-19.

Mannan complained that local MP Nur Mohammad, also a former inspector general of police, opposed the initiative and sent his associates to stop the construction works.

‘The MP’s people extort people of their money. They came to me and asked why I had not taken permission of the MP before setting up the clinic. They even told me that they were not taking extortion from me as I am a serving secretary,’ said Mannan.

Nur Mohammad, however, ruled out his involvement in the incident.

He said that he had information that some locals had gone to the secretary’s house in the morning and asked him about the clinic, but Mannan misbehaved with them and they also got into an argument, but he was not aware of any incident like attacking someone’s house.

Katiadi police station officer-in-charge MA Jalil, however, confirmed the attack incident and said that police went to the spot after attack and brought the situation under control.
