Eminent scientist Bijon Kumar Sil has got clearance from Bangladesh Investment Development Authority for getting visa to come to Bangladesh.

BIDA issued the clearance letter on Tuesday requesting Bangladesh embassy in Singapore to give Bijon the visa following an application from Gono Bishwabidyalay authorities.

Bijon will come to Bangladesh soon to resume his research projects, said Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Zafrullah Chowdhury.

‘Bijon may arrive in Bangladesh in the next week if he gets the visa,’ he said.

Scientist Bijon, also chairman of microbiology department of Gono Bishwabidyalay, a concern of Gonoshahstha Kendra, became renowned to the countrymen after developing a COVID-19 testing kit.

Internationally famous scientist Bijon is a Bangladesh-born Singapore citizen. He came to Bangladesh in February, 2020, and worked as the Gonoshasthaya Kendra’s antibody kit development team leader.

On September 20, microbiologist Bijon left Dhaka for Singapore after he failed to get an extension of his work permit even after repeated attempts.

Bijon, before leaving the country, told New Age that he tried to get an extension of his work permit but failed.

Bijon, a microbiologist, developed rapid test anti-body kit to test COVID-19 patients; but the government is yet to give permission for its public use.

He worked as chairman of microbiology department of Gono Bishwabidyalay at Savar and researched at GK’s RNA-Lab.

Gonoshasthaya Samajvittik Medical College vice-principal Mohib Ullah Khondoker said that they were ready to accept him in his previous position.

However, BIDA director Md Ariful Hoque claimed that GB did not apply for Bijon’s visa.
