The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained two members of the banned militant outlet Al-Qaeda, in Brahmanbaria's Sarail upazila.

They are Md Yeahia, 22 and Md Huzaifa Saad, 20, hailing from Shahbazpur of the district.

After being tipped-off, members of law enforcement - led by Bhairab Camp's Company Commander Rafiuddin Mohammad Zubair and Squad Commander  Mohammad Belaet Hossain - conducted a drive in Uttarpara area of
Shahbazpur and detained them, according to a press release by Rab 14 Bhairab Camp.

Two books on extremism, two photocopies of such books, four leaflets, two mobile phones, and some other documents were seized during the drive.

The duo admitted before Rab, during an initial interrogation, that they became supporters of Al-Qaeda because they were motivated by jihad.

They have long been disseminating extremist propaganda through: leaflets, extremist books, mobile phone messages, and organisational activities to recruit Al-Qaeda members.
They were planning subversive activities and attacks targeting the state's prominent individuals and places.

Squad Commander Belaet Hossain said the duo have been under observation for the last five months.
They held a secret meeting at a local mosque on Thursday night, said Belaet, adding that a case has been filed against them at Sarail Police Station.
