Prices of various types of vegetables, including potato, have declined further at different kitchen markets in the capital riding on plentiful supplies, much to the relief of the city dwellers.

With a fall in mercury, the supply of winter vegetables has increased in the capital, leading to a decrease in their prices.
City residents can now buy vegetables at cheaper prices that skyrocketed over the last several months due to damaged crops and disrupted supply chains across the country caused by heavy rains and floods.

They felt the pinch of soaring commodity prices during the period which forced them to cut the consumption amid reduced income induced by the coronavirus pandemic.

However, prices of winter vegetables have come down at city kitchen markets following adequate supplies.

Farmers are growing different types of vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflower, tomato, radish, hyacinth bean, spinach and bottle gourd during this winter season.

Traders in the capital on Friday said the winter vegetables started to arrive in the markets in plenty which forced the prices to decline from last week’s ones.

During a visit to Mohammadpur Krishi Market, it was found that radish was selling at Tk 15-20 per kg against last week’s Tk 25-30, kohlrabi (shalgom) at Tk 30-35 a kg which was Tk 45 a week ago and carrot was selling for Tk 40-45 each kg against Tk 50-60 last week.
