According to RAB, Monirul Islam alias Golden Monir, a car and gold trader in Dhaka's Merul Badda, owns Tk 1,500 crore.

Lieutenant Colonel Ashiq Billah, head of the law and media branch of the RAB headquarters, said this at a press conference on Saturday (November 21) morning.

He said three cases would be filed against Golden Monir at Badda police station for illegal possession of foreign currency, arms and drugs. He owns 200 plots. During the preliminary interrogation, he admitted about 30 plots. 600 loads of gold were seized from his house. Two luxury unlicensed vehicles have been seized. Each is worth 3 crore rupees. 3 more vehicles have been seized.

The RAB official said Goland Monir went from being a salesman at a clothing store to becoming a land robber and a gold smuggler. He became the owner of the land by colluding with RAJUK officials and forging documents. The RAB will request the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to investigate against him.

It may be mentioned that the raid on the house of gold trader Golden Monir started from 10 pm on Friday (November 20). The operation was led by RAB executive magistrate Palash Kumar Bose.
It is learned that raids are also being carried out on Monir's business establishment.

The RAB said the raid was being carried out at Golden Monir's house on charges of illegal acquisition of assets. The RAB also said that every floor of the 6-storey building was searched.
