Demra steel mill burn victim dies

A worker who sustained burn injuries from melting iron at a steel mill in Dhaka’s Demra area died on Saturday night.

Imran Hossain Shanto, 23, died while undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said Partha Sanker Pal, residential surgeon of the hospital.

The victim sustained 40 per cent burns in the body.

Five workers sustained burn injuries from melting iron at a steel mill in Dhaka’s Demra area a week ago.

Of them, Al Amin, Jasim Uddin and Imran were treated at the intensive care unit of the institute.

The other two, Junu Bepari and Didar Hossain, left the hospital after taking first aid.

Al Amin sustained 26 per cent burns, Jasim 20 per cent burns, while Imran sustained 40 per cent burns, Partha said.

The incident took place when some workers were melting iron at the factory in Konapara area, said fire service officials.
