Country’s railway service on Wednesday went into operation with full capacity maintaining health and safety guidelines.

As a result, after a long break, the trains are running to their destinations with 100% passengers. From now on, no seat will remain vacant in trains like buses and launches. Passengers have to seat according to their seat plans as provided in the ticket.

On Wednesday, trains started carrying passengers in all seats. All trains departed from Kamalapur railway station to different destinations on time.

After a long time, the passengers were seen sitting side by side. However, the selling of standing tickets on all intercity trains was stopped.

Mohammad Masud Sarwar, station manager of Kamalapur railway station, told Bangladesh Post, “After many days, the trains are carrying 100 per cent passengers. Passengers are being encouraged to follow the proper hygiene rules.”

“There is no scope to overlook Covid-19. Adequate safety materials such as hand sanitizer and disinfectant has been ensured before travel,” he added.

He also mentioned that, “Fifty percent train tickets will be sold through mobile app (online) and rest of the seats will be sold from station counters.”

Passengers will be able to buy tickets online from 6 am. However, they will be able to collect tickets from the counters from 8 am.

Earlier, the decision was taken at a meeting of the Railway Ministry chaired by Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan on Tuesday.

Train services were suspended from March 25 due to the coronavirus pandemic in the country. Two months later, a limited number of intercity trains started operation on May 31. Later a total of 218 passenger trains started operation. In total some 362 passenger trains are in operation across the country.
