Eminent journalist and writer Rahat Khan passed away at his residence in Dhaka on Friday. He was 79.
The editor of Bangla-language daily Protidiner Sangbad, Khan has been suffering from old-age complicacies for long.
Quddus Afrad, President of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ), while confirming the news to Bangladesh Post said the veteran journalist returned home from hospital just a week ago.
“He died at around 8.30pm at his Eskaton residence,” he said.
His body is kept at the Birdem mortuary for the burial at Buddhijibi graveyard on Saturday.
He left behind his family members and many well-wishers to mourn the death.
DUJ President Quddus Afrad and General Secretary Sajjad Alam Khan Topu condoled the death of the editor in an instant message.
Khan started his career as journalist in 1969 from the Ittefaq as an Assistant Editor.
He spent over four decades at the paper, eventually becoming its editor.
He received the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1973 for his short stories.
He was also awarded with Ekushey Padak in 1996 for his contribution as journalist.
