Noted dance artiste and choreographer Farzana Khan Ela, popularly known as Ela Khan, dominated the country’s field of dancing for more than 12 years. But she was absent from dancing for last six years due to giving more time to her family.

Now she has been passing times with her two children - Tapur Tupur and Arosh. They have grown up and now Ela wants to start work again.

While talking in this regard Ela Khan said, “Many days I was detached with dancing. I watched dance related shows on the TV screen sometimes. I was impressed to watch dancing of Mou Apu, Nadia and a male dancer named Mofazzal.

During that time I wanted to perform dancing on the stage but family life did not help to return. Sometimes I got many offers not only to perform but also to work as choreographer in films but I couldn’t do these. Now I mentally prepared to work.

But the work must have quality. I want to do one or two work in a year. I do not work that type of works where gorgeous costumes and ornaments get priority. As I have academic qualification in dancing at home and abroad so, I want to utilise it for the industry properly. I want to do something for the next generation. Now time will say what will be happened.”

Ela informed that for dancing she was in Delhi from 1995 to 2003. She received training there from noted dance artistes and choreographers Madhavi Mudgal, Rani Khanam and Bimla Thakur, which helped her to establish herself as an international dance artiste.

After returning country, she received training from noted dance artistes Rahija Khanam Jhunu, Munmun Ahmed, Saju Ahmed and Dipa Khondokar for many days. Ela also worked as choreographer in FI Manik and Mostafizur Rahman Manik’s films.

During childhood Ela acted in TV drama. Later, she acted in many TV dramas. She also acted in Tariqul Islam directed telefilm Bhela. She came into limelight to act in this telefilm during that time.

Ela said in Bangladesh, only dancing Farhana Chowdhury Baby became ‘dance star’ because except her, others were engaged with either acting or modelling besides dancing.
