Amid the slow gold trade like other businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic, the price of gold has increased by Tk2,915 to reach Tk72,783 per bhori, which is the highest gold price in the history of Bangladesh.

The new gold price will be effective from Friday, said the Bangladesh Jewellers Samity (Bajus).

"This price is the highest in the history of Bangladesh. We have raised the prices as the price has increased in the international market. If we follow the way prices are rising in the world market, we should now increase the price by more than Tk6,000. However, considering the buyers, we have increased less than Tk3,000."

However, he also said there is very few customers in the gold shops at present.

According to the new price, 22-carat gold will cost Tk72,783, Which was Tk69867 in the past, a Tk2,915 hike per bhori.

Similarly, the price of 21-carat gold has been increased to Tk69,634 and 18-carat gold to Tk60,886.

However, the price of silver will remain unchanged at Tk933 per gram.

Amid Covid-19 pandemic, on June 23, the Bajus raised the price of gold by Tk5,825, which was a record amount of hike.

Gold traders said the price of gold increased in the country due to the rise in the price of gold across the globe due to Covid-19 as people around the world are investing in gold considering it the safest investment.
