Ahead of the biggest rawhide collection season during Eid-ul-Azha, Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) has taken initiative to ensure uninterrupted supply of salt for preservation and processing of hides and skins.

Following the directive of the industries ministry, BSCIC has already issued official instructions to the salt mill owners to continue the supply at the dealer, wholesaler and retailer level by processing the salt round the clock, said a press release.
Besides, the district offices of BSCIC have been directed to ensure adequate salt stock at the dealer or wholesaler level in different districts.

As per the instructions of BSCIC, the district offices are finalising the list of district and upazila based dealers and wholesalers in collaboration with the concerned district administrations.

At present, the total stock of edible and industrial salt in the country is 12.73 lakh tonnes.

During the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, the total demand for salt in the country is more or less one lakh tonnes. With the current stockpile, it will be possible to meet the demand for salt for the next 6 to 7 months, including Eid-ul-Azha, BSCIC said.
