Shahjahan Siraj is no more

Former forest and environment minister and BNP leader Shahjahan Siraj died on Tuesday at the age of 77.

Shahjahan breathed his last around 3:30 pm in the city's Evercare Hospital.

He had long been suffering from cancer.

Shahjahan Siraj was one of the organisers of the liberation war of Bangladesh. He was involved in student politics during the liberation war and also was the general secretary of the BCL during the 1971 war.

In the national parliament election, he was elected three times under the nomination of JSD and one time under the BNP nomination. Besides, after the 2001 election, he was the forest and environment minister in the Khaleda Zia's government.

President Md Abdul Hamid expressed deep condolences to the death of the prominent freedom fighter and politician Shahjahan Siraj.

The President prayed for the departed soul and expressed deep sympathy to his bereaved family.
