Vegetable Prices Drop, Rice-Potato-Onion Prices Remain High

Before the arrival of the winter season, the import of winter vegetables increased in the market. The sellers say that the price of vegetables in the market is slightly lower due to supply. However, the prices of potatoes, onions, and rice have increased.

 
On Friday (November 1), the price of vegetables and fish in the market was monitored by visiting different markets of the capital.


Going to different retail markets of the capital, small-size cauliflower is being sold at Tk50 per piece, cabbage is also at Tk50 per piece. Apart from this, long brinjal is being sold at Tk60 per kg, ribbed gourd at Tk60, bitter gourd at Tk80, and long beans at Tk80 per kg.

 

Beans, carrots, and tomatoes are among the most expensive vegetables in the market. Carrots are being sold at Tk180 per kg, beans at Tk140 per kg, tomatoes at Tk160 per kg. Round brinjal and spiny gourd are being sold at Tk100 per kg.

 


Apart from this, snake gourd is Tk60 per kg, arum lobe Tk80 per kg, pointed gourd Tk 60, sweet pumpkin Tk70 per kg, green chili Tk160, papaya Tk40 per kg, radish Tk60, sponge gourd Tk60, taro stem root Tk60 per kg, gourd at Tk50 per piece, cucumber at Tk60 per kg.

 

Meanwhile, the price of onion per kg has increased from Tk 20 to Tk 30 within a week. It is being sold at the rate of Tk160 per kg. It is selling up to Tk170 in the retail market.


Potatoes have to be bought at Tk65 per kg. Last week it was Tk60. Sellers excuse low supply for higher prices. However, due to the lack of effective supervision of consumer complaints, traders are making excessive profits.


Meanwhile, the price of rice has not come down even though the duty reduction has been recommended. Medium quality rice is not available below Tk54. A kg of high-quality rice is above Tk 70.


A dozen of eggs are being sold at Tk150 to Tk155. Broiler chicken is Tk190 per kg.


In the market, pangas fish are being sold at Tk200 per kg, carp at Tk320 to 380, cultivated climbing fish at Tk250 to 280, tilapia at Tk250, catfish at Tk450 to 500, tengra at Tk600 per kg.


Apart from this, pabda is selling at Tk400 per kg, salmon at Tk360, pomfret at Tk700 to Tk900, shrimp at Tk650 to Tk700, and trout at Tk700 to Tk800 per kg.
