Jamaat files review petition to restore caretaker government

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has filed a review petition against the verdict of repealing the 13th Amendment of the Constitution regarding the abolition of the caretaker government system.

On Wednesday, party secretary general Professor Mia Golam Parwar filed a review petition on behalf of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islamic.


Advocate Shishir Monir, Jamaat's lawyer, confirmed the matter. The Appellate Division is scheduled to hear the plea on Thursday.


Before this, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir applied for a review (reconsideration) against the verdict of cancelling the 13th Amendment of the Constitution related to the abolition of caretaker government system. Meanwhile, last August, Sujan's editor Badiul Alam Majumdar filed a separate review petition against the decision to cancel the 13th Amendment of the Constitution related to the cancellation of the caretaker government system.


On May 10, 2011, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court annulled the 13th Amendment to the Constitution which introduced the caretaker government system. However, the then Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque-led court ruled that the next 10th and 11th elections could be held under a caretaker government.


The judgment said, in this case, the chief advisor of the caretaker government said that any decision can be taken based on consensus in the parliament
