Polythene to be Banned from November 1: Rizwana Hasan

Adviser on environment, forest, and climate change of the interim government Syeda Rizwana Hasan said that from November 1, all types of polythene bags are prohibited and no buyer can be given these bags. Apart from this, raids will be conducted in raw markets and polythene manufacturing factories to ban polythene bags.

She stated this to reporters on Tuesday (September 24) at noon.


It is known that the government has decided to strictly implement the activities of stopping the production, storage, transportation, marketing, and use of polyethylene and polypropylene shopping bags. As a part of this, polythene bags are going to be banned from October 1 in supershops and raw markets from November 1. Jute, cloth, and paper bags will be used as alternatives.


Earlier, Syeda Rizwana Hasan said in a meeting on September 9. According to her, from October 1, no type of polyethylene or polypropylene bags can be kept in supershops. Even buyers cannot be given such bags. However, jute and cloth bags will be kept as an alternative.

At that time, she also said that a massive campaign would be carried out in print and electronic media from September 15. Simultaneously public notice will also be published in the newspaper
