Ex-Minister Farhad placed on 5 Days Remand

A Dhaka Court granted 5 days remand of former public administration minister Farhad Hossain.

He has been placed on remand for interrogation in a case filed over the death of garment worker Rubel during the mass protest.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sanaullah passed the order after the hearing on Sunday (September 15).

Earlier, the investigating officer of the case brought him to the court and applied for a 7-day remand. After the hearing, the court granted a 5-day remand.

Incidentally, Farhad Hossain was arrested from Dhaka's Eskaton area on Saturday night (September 14).

According to the complaint of the case, during the anti-discrimination student movement on August 5, hundreds of students, including Rubel, took out a protest procession in the Ring Road area under Adabar Police Station around 11:00 am. At that time the police, Awami League, Chhatra League, Jubo League, Volunteer League, Sramik League, Tati League, Krishok League, and Matsyajibi League opened fire. Rubel was shot. When he was taken to a nearby hospital, the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Rubel's father Rafiqul Islam filed a case against 148 people including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Adabar police station on August 22. Farhad Hossain is one of the accused in this case.

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been made the main accused. Other accused are Sheikh Hasina's younger sister Sheikh Rehana, Awami League general secretary and former bridge minister Obaidul Quader, former parliamentarian and cricketer Shakib Al Hasan, actor Ferdous, barrister Sayedul Haque Sumon and many others.
