After years of wait and negotiations, Bangladesh Football Federation is finally close to getting British-Bangali football star Hamza Choudhury playing in the red and green jersey.

Kazi Nabil Ahmed, the national team committee chairman, confirmed the latest development to Dhaka Tribune Tuesday.

“The talks have been going on with Hamza. He is interested. We are close to having him play for Bangladesh,” said Nabil.

Born in the United Kingdom, Hamza has Grenadian and Bangladeshi heritage.

Since he expressed interest to play for Bangladesh, the BFF authorities started their efforts to get him on board.

But the 26-year old Leicester City midfielder, who is currently on loan at Watford, could not take final decision as he was waiting for other opportunities.

Nabil, who also happens to be the vice president of BFF, did not dismiss the possibility of confirming Hamza’s services by next month.

Nabil said: “We can ensure it within next few days.”

The men in red and green will fly off to Saudi Arabia for conditioning camp ahead of their next World Cup qualifying matches against Palestine on March 22 away and March 26 at home.
