Bangladesh government has decided to import potato amid price hike and failure to keep the daily essential commodity’s price under control.
A press release issued by commerce ministry informed this on Monday.
‘Considering the current market situation, the government has decided to import potatoes to increase the supply of potatoes in the market and keep the market price stable,’ read the release.
‘Interested importers are requested to apply to the Ministry of Commerce,’ it read.
The government, amid a price surge, on September 14 set the prices of three locally produced food items¬ — egg, potato, and onion — for the first time. The government set the price of potato Tk 36 per kilogram at the retail level.
