Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said on Sunday that the relations between Bangladesh-India have reached a new height in the last 14 years under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Premier Narendra Modi.
During this period, huge changes have occurred in Bangladesh, he said while exchanging views with a group of visiting Indian journalists in Bangabandhu Hall at Chattogram Press Club (CPC) this afternoon.
Hasan Mahmud, also joint general secretary of Awami League, said the visit of Indian journalists to Bangladesh will take the relations between the two countries to a new height and it will play a positive role in deepening the spiritual ties among the people of the two countries.
Thirty-four Indian journalists are now in the port city as a part of their Bangladesh visit. The minister along with the Indian journalists visited Bangabandhu Tunnel and European Club at Pahartoli, the martyrdom place of Pritilata Waddedar, one of the pioneers of the anti-British movement.
He said the Indian people also suffered during the Liberation War and about one crore people took shelter in India at that time. "The bond between Bangladesh and India will be inscribed with golden letters and the barbed wire fence could not divide our bonding," he added.
He said journalists could open the third eye of society and unearth undiscovered issues. The journalists play a pivotal role in steering society and the state in the right direction, he added.
People all over the world including India will know the history of positive change of Bangladesh through their (journalists') writings and the relationship between the two countries will deepen, Hasan hoped.
Salahuddin Mohammad Reza, president of Chattogram Press Club presided over the meeting while Chattogram deputy commissioner Abul Bashar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman, Kolkata Press Club president Snehashish Sur, its secretary Kingshuk Pramanik and senior journalist of Assam Monoj Kumar Goshwami, among others, addressed it.
On the invitation of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, the Indian journalists reached Bangladesh on January 6 and will depart on January 10.
