The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has interrogated Zafar Alam, the ruling party lawmaker representing Cox’s Bazar-1 constituency, and three of his family members over allegations of illegally accumulating wealth through abuse of power.

Zafar Alam came to the ACC’s integrated district office in Cox's Bazar along with his family members on Tuesday.

The other members of his family present with him were his wife Shaheda Begum, daughter Tania Afrin and son Tuhin Alam.

The four stand accused of land grabbing, illegal sand lifting, extortion and controlling drug syndicates.

The Awami League lawmaker and his wife denied the allegations and said some of his local political rivals had levelled those “baseless” accusations against them.

They had been asked to come to the ACC office on September 4, but could not do so as they were busy with party activities on that day.
