The decision was taken protesting the blocking of bus movement on the Dhaka-Barguna route through the Barguna-Bakerganj road
Barguna District Transport Management Committee has called for an indefinite strike on bus services from Barguna to Dhaka.
The decision was taken in Barguna’s district transport management committee meeting on Sunday afternoon.
Barguna transport management committee Joint Convener AK Azad Bablu and Transport Counter Director Pilu Ghosh confirmed the matter, reports Bangla Tribune.
According to local sources, bus movement through the Barguna-Bakerganj road on Dhaka-Barguna route has been halted for almost two months. As a result, buses had to go via other routes taking 3-4 hours longer.
Pilu Ghosh said: “The Barguna-Bakerganj road has been used for the past 20 years. However, suddenly, the leaders of Barisal's Rupatali Bus Owners Association are blocking long-distance transport through this road causing immense inconvenience.”
Saiful Islam, in-charge of Sonartali Paribahan counter in Barguna, said: “We have called for a strike as the long-distance transport from Bakerganj to Barguna has been blocked. We want the problem to be resolved.”
