Nearly 16 million people have completed registration on the Su-rokkha website and are still waiting for their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. Some of the vaccine seekers have been waiting for over two months. But they are yet to receive the SMS notification from the Di-rectorate General of Health Servic-es (DGHS) asking them to go to vac-cine centres. They complained that they had acquaintances who had registered after them but received doses first. Dr Mizanur Rahman, director (MIS) at DGHS, said 54.8 million people had registered for the vac-cine and 38.9 million had received the first dose as of Monday, leaving about 16 million people waiting. SMS notifications were yet to be sent to some of the vaccine seekers because of an issue with the regis-tration process, he added. "Some vaccine centres have a high number of registrations but only a certain number of doses have been allocated to them. As it is showing that the centre does not have enough vaccines, the SMS no-tifications have not been said;' he explained. He also said SMS notifications had been sent to some people, but they did not show up at the centres. Officials were working to resolve the issues, the DGHS director fur-ther said. "If anyone has a complaint, they can contact us and we will try to help them;' he added.

Md Shahjahan Sheikh, a resident of Mirpur ii, registered for vaccina-tion with Nagar Matrisadan centre on July 29. His wife registered the same day, and neither has received any SMS notification yet. Shahjahan Sheikh told : "I think I will go to the centre and speak to them about the delay, because many of my ac-quaintances registered for vaccina-tion after me and they have been vaccinated?'
Shaily Nasrin, a 25-year-old stu-dent, registered for the vaccine with a centre in Dhanmondi in the first week of August and is yet to re-ceive her SMS notification. She said: "I want to get vaccinat-ed to be risk free. The university is open now and it would be very risky if I entered the house with an infection from outside?' Businessman Manju MK Kalb registered for the vaccine with a centre in the Matuail area on Au-gust 2, and he too has not received the SMS notification yet. PAGE 4 COLUMN 6

PAGE 1 COLUMN 3 Emran Mahfuz, a 29-year-old poet, said: "It should not take so long to get the vaccine. There is no short-age of supply right now. They should at least inform me why I have not got the vaccine yet." He registered with a centre in Comilla in August. Jahanara Hawa said: "I regis-tered 2 months ago and my hus-band registered a few days ago. We both registered with Kurmitola General Hospital. He has received the vaccine already, but I have not even got the SMS yet." Ananta Ahmed, 30, had to wait two months and 20 days before getting the vaccine on October 2. Many of his acquaintances who registered the same day also got their SMS notifications after more than two months. According to the Health Servic-es Division, health workers of the division engaged in vaccination activities send the SMS notifica-tions to vaccine seekers as per the Surokkha website.
