The daily number of dengue cases continued to rise with the detection of 143 new cases in 24 hours till 8:00am on Tuesday.
With the latest figure, the total number of dengue cases has increased to 1,945 since January but 1,573 of the cases were detected in 27 days in July.
The daily number of cases was 123 on Monday and 105 on Sunday.
The surge in the number of dengue patients has come at a time when the country’s health sector is grappling with the worsening Covid outbreak.
Among the 143 new dengue cases detected on Tuesday, only one case was detected outside the capital city of Dhaka, according to the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services.
The DGHS said that 509 dengue patients were currently undergoing treatment in different government and private hospitals.
Of the patients, 500 were admitted at 41 public and private hospitals in Dhaka and the rest were in hospitals in other divisions.
Some 1,433 patients have been released from hospitals till Tuesday morning since January.
Information of three deaths supposedly from dengue has been sent to the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research till Tuesday morning but the institute is yet to analysis the data.
The DGHS reported 1,193 dengue cases and three deaths in 2020 after a major outbreak of the disease in 2019 when 1,01,350 dengue patients were hospitalised across the country with at least 276 of them dying from the mosquito-borne viral infection.
In 2018, at least 10,148 dengue cases were detected with 26 deaths.
According to the National Malaria Elimination and Aedes Transmitted Diseases Control Programme, the authorities have identified some specific areas with relatively high dengue infection in both Dhaka North and South city corporations this year.
The areas under the south city corporation are Kakrail, Moghbazar, Siddheshwari, Shantinagar, Segunbagicha, Paltan, Khilgaon, Mugdha and Basabo while the areas under the north city are Rampura, cantonment areas, Mohakhali, Mirpur, Bashundhara residential area, Badda and Mohammadpur.
