The politics of the country is at a standstill

The country's politics has come to a standstill for the past two years due to various reasons including Corona infection, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's illness, Ershad-less 'inactive' Jatiya Party, Hefazat-e-Islam issue, Jamaat-e-Islam's inactivity and the second phase of lockdown across the country.

The politics of Bangladesh revolves around the history of the birth of this country, the existing system of government, international influence and the political mentality of the people. Since the formation of the Provisional Government in 1971 and the enactment of the Provisional Constitution, the system of government in Bangladesh has changed many times. But the people-friendly political arena has not yet developed.

It goes without saying that political parties do not have visible public programs. The government after One-Eleven (1/11) could not stand firmly against the Awami League, the largest opposition party in Bangladesh, the BNP. However, earlier this year, the BNP was preparing to take to the field on a number of issues. But the party's chairperson Khaleda Zia's sudden illness has also stopped it.

On the other hand, the ruling Awami League has lost its glamor at the grassroots level due to lack of political influence in the opposition parties. Leaders and activists are using power and muscle power everywhere by pushing away political tactics. Although this has had a negative impact on the public opinion of the party at the field level, the Awami League has kept everything tight in tactics. Meanwhile, a large part of the businessmen are occupying important positions in the politics of the country. The administration is in a strict position to control the field to maintain the position of the Awami League. In this situation, the activities of all other parties including the main opposition political force BNP have become social media dependent. They are giving their position with a couple of statements from time to time.

According to analysts, there has been a major crisis in the country's politics. They see no hope of overcoming the current political crisis in Bangladesh. Even if the crisis goes away due to some pressure, it will be temporary. They think the crisis will return. Because the political parties are the cause of the crisis. They want a crisis. Crisis persists in their interest. According to Afsan Chowdhury, an analyst of contemporary politics, there is a kind of isolation in current politics. The major political parties in Bangladesh are run on the basis of extortion. Power is a powerful weapon for extortion. So their main goal is to go to power or retain power in any way, the people are not a consideration for them. As a result, there is no political compromise. That whose position remains uncompromising. Moreover, the influence of businessmen or bureaucrats has been created in politics. When they make a decision, it is in their best interests. Think about the people. The real politicians who think so are now secondary. The people of the country have nothing to do with this politics. The people of the country do not hold this political ideology.

He said the politics of any party is no longer in the hands of politicians. Its controllers are now the civil and military bureaucracies and the rich. And ordinary people are not in politics. They don't matter. As a result, what has happened. Politics is out of the reach of politicians. As a result, in the current situation, the people of the country do not want to come to the field even after calling these politicians.

Shamim Reza, a professor and political analyst at Dhaka University's Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, thinks that despite the rise and fall of various political upheavals in Bangladesh, the dominance of professional politicians in politics is negligible. But if we look at the last two or three parliaments, we will see that those who have been in politics for a long time have been replaced by other professionals. There are bureaucrats. In the context of our country, it is not possible to be popular without a political professional. With the love of the team and the leaders, it is possible to gather millions of people at the field level on various issues.

He said it is not a good sign to be a politician in a short time by doing business for a long time, to be influential in politics in a short time by working for a long time from a bureaucrat or in any force. The politics that politicians are supposed to conduct is not expected in a non-existent democratic system. I think if this trend continues, it will have a big impact on the politics of Bangladesh. As a result, the field of politics may gradually become unpopular.

Barrister Andalib Rahman Perth, president of the Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP), said there was nothing to be disappointed with the current state of politics. No matter how much the government beats the drum of development, talks of success, in fact this government has become depopulated. They have no support from the people. They are not elected by popular vote. Other than that, the government cannot be said to be successful if it completes its full term. This government is not a morally and technically legitimate government. No matter how hard they tried to get legitimacy, it was not acceptable. Being in power for 12/14 years cannot be called successful. They want to deactivate the supporters and leaders of the opposition through repression.

He said that the fate of Begum Khaleda Zia is not determined by the court or an executive order or the stroke of a pen. Similar attempts have been made during the One-Eleven but they have not been successful. When a leader like Khaleda Zia is sent to jail with a political case, it must be understood that the government has run out of cards to deal with the BNP or the 20-party alliance politically. The government has sent Begum Zia to jail with a case for failing to deal with the BNP politically. But as a result of this decision of the government, only 20 parties including BNP have benefited. At the same time, Khaleda Zia's popularity has also increased. According to him, we are not disappointed in the current state of politics. This is a good omen for good politics. This black cloud of politics will soon disappear. Good days will come in politics.

Claiming that repression and lawsuits in the government will not do much harm to the BNP, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the party leaders and workers are more united in this. As a political party, the ultimate political goal of the BNP is to win the elections and bring the party to power. The BNP has been out of state power for almost 12 years. Party chief Khaleda Zia was in jail for a long time. There are more cases against him. Meanwhile, the leaders and workers of Dal are busy to cure Khaleda Zia from her illness. Apart from that, Tareq Rahman also has no chance to return to the country to build a violent movement. And in the Corona situation, the people of the country are in various crises. All in all, there is no reason to be discouraged from the current calm of politics. We believe that our workforce, the people, will be able to reach our political goals by ignoring them.

Jatiya Party (JPA) chairman GM Quader, who has been contesting the elections in alliance with the Awami League since 2008, said they are no longer allied with any party. The Jatiya Party has never compromised on the role of the main opposition party on the question of the rights of the country and the people. The Jatiya Party does not do politics of mercy or begging. The Jatiya Party is doing politics for the sake of respect, not for the sake of anyone.

He said political parties tend to be weaker if they are not in power. The Awami League formed the government in 1996 with our support. Before that the Awami League was weak but now it has become a super power. The BNPO has been weakened for a long time. But the Jatiya Party has been weakened by being out of power for longer. The Jatiya Party will emerge as a very promising political force in the politics of the future. The people of the country are looking at the Jatiya Party with great interest for a clean image. Jatiya Party is in the field with its own politics. The Jatiya Party is moving forward in the field of politics with its own individuality. So soon the Jatiya Party will turn around in the field of politics.
